Debit Card vs. Credit Card - What's The Difference?

People often struggle with the 'debit card vs. credit card' dilemma when deciding what type of payment card to use. Here is what you need to know when deciding whether to use a debit card or a credit card.

  1. Debit cards are directly tied to a checking account that you own. Transactions made with a debit card are immediately posted against that checking account.
  2. Credit cards are a type of loan product. You charge items against the credit card up to a certain maximum amount. You are required to make a payment against that balance on a regular basis, usually monthly.

Debit Card Fees

Univest charges no monthly debit card fees to possess or use the MasterMoney® Debit Card. Most fees associated with the usage of the MasterMoney® Debit Card come from the courtesy overdraft protection service being used when a transaction is done for which there is insufficient funds in the checking account to cover the purchase.
